The independent Department of Operative Dentistry came into existence in 1980, with the establishment of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, King Georges Medical College, Lucknow. Before that it existed as a dental wing of KGMC and this branch in the department of dentistry which was established in 1948. The postgraduate course in this subject was started way back in 1977. The department presently takes 5 postgraduates every year in a 3 years course - 2 from UP PGME, 2 from CBSE and 1 Central Government nominee. The department imparts preclinical and clinical training at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics.
This is the only department in India imparting training in Gold Foil Restoration. Equipments like operating microscope, intraoral camera, all porcelain furnace RVG and 18 state of the art chair units have been acquired for the postgraduate program. The Department work quantum includes approximately 5000 RCT cases, 500 inlays and crowns and 500 enddontics surgery and 100 Gold Foil, 1000 asthetic restoration in one calendar year apart from routine silver amalgam restoration at under graduate and post graduate level. We are also doing special treatment pertaining to conservative dentistry and enddontics.
